LSF management team, led by Executive Director Ms. Lulu Ng'wanakilala, recently held discussions with the Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, in a meeting aimed at advancing access to justice initiatives in Tanzania.
The meeting focused on strategies to enhance the sustainability of legal aid services in the country, emphasizing the importance of integrating these services into national frameworks for long-term impact. Discussions also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration between LSF and the Ministry in fostering equal access to justice, particularly for vulnerable groups, including women and children.
A key highlight of the discussions was the shared commitment to the effective implementation of the National Legal Aid Campaign initiated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan. LSF, serving as the Vice Chair of the campaign, has been instrumental in mobilizing resources and coordinating stakeholders to expand legal aid services to underserved communities. The campaign aims to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing legal support, aligning with the national agenda of social and economic inclusivity.
Additionally, LSF presented updates on its ongoing projects, including capacity-building programs for paralegals, public awareness initiatives on legal rights, and efforts to harmonize legal aid standards across the country. Prof. Kabudi commended LSF’s role in championing access to justice and reaffirmed the Ministry’s support in creating a conducive environment for these efforts to thrive.
The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their commitment to joint implementation of future programs and ensuring that legal aid becomes a cornerstone of social justice in Tanzania.
