1. Methods of Grant Making:

Open Grant Competitions: Advertised publicly; applications undergo objective technical evaluation.
§ Two-Stage Open Grant Competitions

Two-Stage Open Grant Competitions: Starts with a
call for concept papers, followed by a restricted call for full proposals from
shortlisted applicants.
§
Direct Invitation: Pre-selected legal aid
providers are directly invited to apply based on their known expertise.

Unsolicited Proposals: Can be submitted anytime
but may not be considered unless in line with a specific call.
2. Purpose of Granting: To enhance:

Accessibility to quality legal aid.

Legal empowerment.

Environment conducive for legal aid.

Sustainability of legal aid providers.

thematic Areas: Women Economic Justice , Women
in Leadership and Social and Cultural rights.
3. Types of Grants:
§
Large Grant: 2-3 years, Value: 500 million – 1.2
billion Tshs.
§
Medium Grant: 2-3 years, Value: Above 300 –
below 500 million Tshs.
§
Small Grant: 1-3 years, Value: 50 - 300 million
Tshs.
§
Micro-Operating Grant: 1 year (renewable),
Value: Not exceeding 50 million Tshs (activity-based max: 10 million).
4. Eligibility: Applicants should:
I.
Be legal entities under Tanzanian law.
II.
Have relevant experience and capacity in legal
services.
III.
Not have overlapping funding for identical
activities from another donor.
5. Eligible Costs:
Costs incurred
should be directly related to the grant's purpose. This includes staff costs,
travel, equipment, consumables, subcontracting, etc. Up to 7% of direct
eligible costs can be claimed for indirect costs.
6. Ineligible Costs:
Debts, interest
owed, items financed by other donors, land purchases, and certain indirect
costs are not covered.
